Love and Infertility: Survival Strategies for Balancing Infertility, Marriage, and Life

Magnacca, Kristen. Love and Infertility: Survival Strategies for Balancing Infertility, Marriage, and Life. LifeLine. Sept. 2004: 157p. ISBN 0-0526-056-5. $21.95. SELF-HELP

Magnacca (Girlfriend to Girlfriend: A Fertility Companion) draws on her own experiences with infertility in presenting 28 strategies for keeping the love fires lit during what can be a heartbreaking experience. Her advice and tactics are good, even if most of them use infertility as a backdrop to address more basic marital issues; team-building exercises and clarity in communicating are emphasized. Suggestions are solid if unremarkable (e.g., be “gentle but firm” with those constantly inquiring about your pregnancy), and a few alternative medical techniques, like craniosacral therapy, are also explored. This supportive guidebook will find an appreciative audience and is recommended to augment (but not replace) Alice D. Domar and Alice Lesch Kelly’s Conquering Infertility: Dr. Alice Domar’s Mind/Body Guide to Enhancing Fertility and Coping with Infertility.
